Corners of my home - Watto

This is on top of a shelf in my office, my Watto collection, stocked by my husband. He loves Star Wars and likes to find Watto toys for me since I like that character.

Just in case your thinking... please no Watto gifts from anyone but Brian.

Another feature... how lovely!

Come take a peek here!

Handmade Hat

I saw this hat pattern on Martha's site and gave it a try. It was really easy to make and so cute on Amelia. I wanted to make one for myself but for some reason I look odd in hats without a brim. I think it might be that my big curly hair competes with the hat? Anyway... if you have an hour and some fabric, make yourself a hat.

Buttermilk Biscuits from Scratch

I never really made a lot of bread and such from scratch, it seems to take so long... all that rising and kneading. I don't like long recipes with lots of ingredients, but I saw recipe for biscuits on this food blog I had to give it a try.

I love this guy's blog because he makes these great how to cook videos. I am a very visual person and I like to see how things should look along the way.

The girls had a lot of fun helping me make these and they tasted pretty good, KFC still beats mine, but with a little practice who knows?

Christmas Card - 2009

For those of you who did not make our cut of 60+ cards, here is what you missed. I can't take credit for this one, it's all Brian's handy work, he did a great job capturing us all as elves.

I love how Amelia's teeth are missing and
Anna is dressed as Hermie the elf, she loves Hermie!

Booger

Brian is in the other room reading the girls their bedtime stories and I am at the computer.
I hear him stop reading and say...

Brian: Did you just wipe a booger on me?

Amelia: No

Brian: Then how did this booger get one me?

I didn't hear an answer and then he continues reading. I am giggling at the brief conversation, you know you have kids when mysterious boogers start appearing.

Photo is from our November trip to Disney

One european kiss followed by a kiss from God

Anna started a new ritual a few months ago and I am the only one she does it too.

First she kisses my left cheek then she puts her hands on my face and turns it and kisses my right cheek. You would think we lived in europe... but it doesn't stop there. She then guides my head down and gently kisses my forehead. This is so sweet, magical and every time I feel blessed by her.

I am one lucky Mama!

Gooey Butter Cookies

It was another snow day today, no school... so time to make some cookies. I found this easy recipe online for Gooey Butter Cookies and the girls and I gave it a try. The girls had lots of fun rolling the dough into balls and coating them with powdered sugar. 12 minutes later... yummmmmmmmm, these cookies are sooooooooo good!

We took some cookies over to our neighbor and she called us right away saying how good they were and asked for the recipe.

Gooey Butter Cookies

Makes about 24

8 ounces cream cheese (1 package)
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 18.5-ounce package yellow cake mix
1/4 cup powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350 F (175 degrees C). In a medium bowl, cream together the cream cheese and butter. Stir in the egg and vanilla. Add cake mix, and stir until well blended. Roll into 1" balls and then roll the balls in the powdered sugar. Place 1 inch apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 13 minutes. Remove from baking sheets to cool on wire racks.

Hobo Froggy

I had an old green sweater and wanted to make something from it and I have had this frog stuck in my mind, so poof, a hobo froggy is born. His legs are made from an old t-shirt... I love making upcycled items, it makes me extra happy to make something out of nothing.

Here is the quick sketch I had done, I made a hobo stick instead of the crown... more orginal.

Everything I need

I have had this small scrap of half torn paper on my desk for about the past 4 months.

It says... I have everything I need.

I constantly see it, it keeps getting shuffled around and buried under papers, then I clean my desk and find it again. I wrote it to remind myself that I really do have everything I need and to help myself with the urge to purchase anything I don't really need. I feel as Americans we over indulge ourselves too often and I am also guilty of this. We are trained to always want more or big and better things.

I have healthy and beautiful children.
I have a loving husband and a caring family.
I have a nice simple house, not too big, not too small (even though one more room would be nice... see there I go again).
I have food in my pantry and lots of clothes to wash.
I have a car to drive and a job to do.
I have enough to send my girls to swimming lessons and soccer.
I have a little extra to take a vacation.

I have everything I need... and I am very thankful!

The History of the Brides Ornaments is ... In the Old Country, it was customary to give these symbols of a happy home to ensure a love partnership's happiness and success and every new couple should have this collection as they begin their life together.

New Years Resolution

I don't have any official New Years Resolution because last year I made two and neither project got finished... too much pressure. But here are a few things I want to do over 2010.

- catch up on my scrapbooking
- finish my quilt
- keep my office clean
- organized the basement and garage
- finish our wills
- relax more

It's a short list, that I know I can complete...
Here's to a wonderful 2010!
